The design is a modification of the US 'Asheville Class' , known as PSMM MK 5 (Patrol Ship Multi Mission). Constructed from aluminum and powered by two diesel engines and a gas turbine, the Mandaus can quickly reach speeds of up to 41 knots. By US standards the Mandau Class is a PGM (Patrol Guided Missile), whilst in the Indonesian Navy it's classified as a PSK (Patrol Ship Killer).
