Descripción
Highly detailed model plastic compass. Great for closeup shots.
This versatile model could be used in a variety of scenes from outdoor activities (hiking, camping, exploring, etc.) to military and kids (boy scouts, etc.).
Note: terrain backgrounds used in preview images are not included.
The backplate curves up at the one end so that the compass can sit flush on a map without the attached cord lifting it up. The cord runs through a slot at this end.
Needle and the bezel can be rotated and animated about their axes.
Getting some of the subtler details right, such as the smoothly notched bezel and a backplate that renders smoothly (with a gentle curve up at the end) took quite a bit longer than anticipated.
Depending on the background surface you use, you may wish to adjust the transparency level of the plastic to achieve the right level of contrast.
In the Max file, the cord is not collapsed and the path can be edited to make it snake into a different position.
3DS and MAX R4 versions are included in the Zip file. If you use the 3DS file, you may need to re-apply the included map files for the compass needle and the backplate of the compass (simple planar mapping).
The numerals and inch marks around the bezel are geometry so they don"t need to be mapped on.
