The main vehicle commander in the Soviet Army, as well as the Warsaw Pact countries since the mid-1970s, replaced in this capacity, the GAZ-69 predecessor. Serial production of models and UAZ-469 UAZ-469B began in December 1972, before starting some pilot-scale batches have been produced since 1964.
