PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
This is a High Definition accurate scale model of the Saturn V Launch Vehicle S-IVB stage, Instrument Unit (IU), Spacecraft Lunar Module Adaptor (SLA) and Command Service Module (CSM) that first carried man to Earth orbit and then into Trans-Lunar Injection (TLI) onward to the moon in December 1968.
The S-IVB stage took over from the jettisoned S-II stage at an altitude of about 114 miles taking the Apollo spacecraft into a parking Earth orbit of 115 miles at a velocity of 17,500 mph. It's J2 engine was then re-ignited to propel it into TLI and up to 24,500 mph. After the Apollo spacecraft separated from them some of the S-IVB stages were deliberately crashed into the Moon and others sent into orbit around the Sun.
Please download and read the free "Saturn Apollo Reference Guide" - PDF for in depth information about this model (downloadable from the full Saturn Apollo model product ID 435413).
Modeled with precision using detailed 1:48 scale blueprints and extensive photographic research spanning over a year.
Separate parts enable realistic animation of the J2 engine gimballing and opening of the petal-like SLA panels to release the CSM and Lunar Module (not included). The Service Module includes an animated spotlight and extendible High Gain Antenna.
182 high resolution texture and bump maps offer down to the rivet detail.
Modeled with LightWave 9.6
