This is a model I created for a design competition for the company Umbra. The goal was to come up with a concept design for a new paper towel holder. The inspiration behind this design was to have something with a very mechanical, high end aesthetic. Line and shapes were studied and designed with purpose, everything needed to "fit" together aesthetically. This is by no means a basic paper towel holder, it's aimed at a more high end market, owners of fine vehicles etc. and luxury designed goods. The focus was also to solve the issue, mechanically, of being able to tear the paper towel while the roll continues to decrease in size. The "Swing arm" concept has a unique swing arm design that's tensioned by springs, and helps to provide tension on the roll and keep the tearing edge positioned properly no matter how small the roll becomes. Some other cool features are that it's minimally designed and uses little materials. It is quick configurable for wall, countertop or under counter usage. It can be carried by the extruded aluminum grab handle and it features a simple and unique "rip strip" that makes it easy to do one hand tears. Changing rolls is very easy as the unit is simply flexed apart and the roll inserted. Modeled with SolidWorks 2012 Rendered with Keyshot 4.1, all HQ renderings Files included are .step, .stl and .igs. The .step and .stl files are of the holder in it's assembled state, however, the .IGS files will extract and provide the following sub parts, Swing Arm bar Centermount Left and right leg left and right nub left and right leg springs Plastic Arms Brackets **The table and paper towel roll do NOT come with this package. This model is intended for project use only, For renderings and for printing .stl for personal use only and not in a commercial setting for resale.
