Baroque Style Carved Bench, Italy c.1890, Silver Gilt, Painted Finish. The exuberant profile of this bench reflects the fantastic quality known as Baroque with its exaggerated curved legs that sweep inward to join at the centre in a raised centre section topped with a finial. Framed between the four sections created where the legs are joined is a carved scallop motif that adds visual definition. This bench was designed to be used within an interior so it could be moved around as needed therefore it is finished completely on all four sides. Please notice the deep relief carving both on the straight lines that follow the sweep of the legs as well as the various motifs employed at the feet and sides. The generously sized seat makes it exceptionally comfortable when seated. The gorgeous painted finish is highlighted with silver gilt that gives a beautiful gleam in any level of light. The seat has been freshly upholstered in a textured vinyl centred with a large button that adds a contemporary flair to its seventeenth century origins.
