Omschrijving
Duga was a Soviet over-the-horizon radar system used as part of anti-ballistic missile early-warning network. It operated in 1976-1989 and has range 3000 km. Two radars were deployed: Duga-1 in Chernobyl, Ukraine (often mistakely named Duga-3) and Duga-2 in Komsomolsk-na-Amure, Siberia. Also was built a prototype, experimental Duga-N radar, in Nikolaev, Ukraine. Extremely powerful, the Duga-1 radar caused some radio wave interferences, sounded like a sharp, repetitive tapping noise, which led to Duga being nicknamed by radio listeners the Russian Woodpecker, however, NATO reporting name of the radar was Steel Yard.
After the Chernobyl Disaster the Duga-1 radar site (also known as Chernobyl-2 site) entered into 30 kilometer Zone of Alienation around power plant. After several attempts to be re-launched, the site was finally deactivated. The radar still stands, abandoned but attracting much attention from extreme people. It's only from three Duga radars (including its prototype), surviving until present days. All other radars of that type were destroyed in the end of 80s' after Cold War ending.
The model is real world scaled. Attention please: that mean, it is about 150 meters in height and some 200 meters lenght. Due of complexity of the model, were used only 5 Duga radar masts instead original 15. However, you can easy copy the rest 10 masts to create full-range Steel Yard, if you will need it and your system will be ready to eat about 30 millions of polygons. Currently the scene contain 9,5M of polygons and has weight over 700Mb unzipped. The scene require x64-bit OS with 16Gb of RAM in order to work comfortly, less memory may led to software collapse. The model crteated in high-detailed level to be used for close-ups. File formats other than max aren't available.
