It is the most famous of the city's churches and one of the best known examples of Byzantine architecture. It lies on Piazza San Marco (in the San Marco sestiere or district) adjacent and connected to the Doge's Palace. Originally it was the "chapel" of the Venetian rulers, and not the city's cathedral. #Antonino #Basilica #Bridge #Campanile #Canal #Carnevale #Carnival #Casanova #Ciao #Cristaudo #Croce #Cupole #Doge #Doges #Dogi #Ducale #Fenice #Glass #Gondole #Gran #Grasso #Historical #Italia #Italian #Italiano #Italy #La #Lagoon #Laguna #Leone #Lido #Marco #Mark #Murano #Palazzo #Piazza #Ponte #Repubblica #Republic #Rialto #San #Serenissima #Sospiri #Square #St #Storico #Venetian #Veneto #Venezia #Veneziano #Venice #Vetro #Vivaldi
