Spruance Class DD984 USS Leftwich Model 3D

These Destroyers are very detailed and built near to scale. It includes a lot of detail on weather decks. Many features are animateable including rudders, propellers, radar antennas, guns, missile launchers, missiles, hanger doors, and others. The model is fully textured. Note that every ship in a particular class has variations from the original design criteria and these variations are not always available to us. These models come in a wide variety of formats and high resolution textures. The Spruance Destroyer Class was designed to escort a Carrier Task force and protect it from Submarine warfare. The first in class was commissioned in 1975 and the class served for three decades before being replaced. Although they were classified as Destroyers with the DD identifiers, they could have been classified as CG because of their large size and they had a primary missile weapons system. There were fast and maneuverable and crews loved them. When they began to age they were decommissioned and not upgraded in favor of the newer and more stealthy Arleigh Burke Class Destroyers. The last Spruance was decommissioned in 2005.
