The Fokker F-27 Friendship model profiled and available here is an almost new model, completely rebuilt in 2016 with higher quality geometry, all new textures and new features. This model was built near to scale (within a couple of percent in general dimensions) and with as much detail externally as possible based on drawing available to us. These models are fully textured and come with materials for the livery shown in this profile. Animateable features include ailerons, flaps, elevators, rudder, propellers, landing gear and landing gear doors. These models come with several format files including 3ds, obj, lwo, asc, dwg, dxf, u3d, and obj. The Fokker F-27 is a twin-engine turbo-prop commercial passenger airliner. It was designed and developed by Fokker in 1950 and saw its maiden flight in Nov 1955 with Hugo Burgerhout at the controls. A tail heavy design required modification and a 3 foot fuselage stretch in front of the CG was added also adding 3 seats capacity. The Fokker F-27s were produced beginning in 1958 and they were in production until 1987 a long production run. Over 500 were built by Fokker and another 400 plus were built by Fairchild Hiller in the US under license including another stretched version called the FH-227. After serving as passenger airliners, many were converted to cargo/express package service many being flown as feeder cargo aircraft by air freight companies. However these were all retired by the end of 2009. Very few remain in service. The F-27 lead to the development of the Fairchild Hiller 227 a stretched version of this aircraft. The Fokker F-50 and F-60s were also further design developments of the F-27.
