This model of a Buccaneer 18 racing sailboat is built with a lot of detail. It is detailed in running rigging, accessories, rails, rigging and running rigging. The running rigging is animateable. The model comes with a jib and main sail. It does not include the spinnaker sale or spinnaker pole. It does however have the spinnaker chute which was molded into the later boats for easy deployment of the spinnaker. Originally designed by Douglas MacAlpine the Buccaneer 18 was manufactured by Chrysler during the 1970s. It gained in popularity and a class organization was formed. In the 1980s the boat was built by AMF but quality problems and over weight boat hulls reduced their popularity and sales. In the late 1980s Cardinal Yachts manufactured the and increased the quality far beyond what had previously been done. The boats weighed between 500 pounds and 480 pounds when built by Cardinal Yachts and some almost 600 pounds when they were built by AMF giving them a major disadvantage when racing. The Buccaneer is a very enjoyable boat to sail or to race. It is a bit too difficult for the novice sailor but is a real joy to those who are experienced sailors. This model makes a great subject for day sailing and sail boat racing scenes, visualization, animated video and still renderings.
