Notes
Renders are from the shaders in the first slot. The first slot gives a 'healthy' look. There is an alternate 'dieing'/'infected'/'cancerous' looking shader in the second slot to experiment with.
I call it a soccer ball because the groupings resemble a soccer ball to me. It can be used for any type of generic molecule. The custom bump map gives it an organic look, but can be removed for a smoother look. If you swap out the shaders for some tech looking maps, you have a cool sci-fi object. I created this a few years ago when I was making animations for a vitamin company. It was designed to fill space in the background.
The Banner image, soccerball-pretty.jpg was created in After Effects. The background molecules were made using Element 3D. The custom bump map doesn't work well with Element as it's not a 'normal bump map'.
If the poly count proves too large after creating a lot of clones, add an optimizer or pro-optimizer modifier.
Enjoy!
