描述
Le Duc 0.10 & Launch Rocket Sled
This is a model of the Leduc 0.10 ramjet prototype aircraft. This aircraft has a double hulled fuselage which essentially is one big ramjet engine. The gap at the front between the inner and outer shell is the inlet of the ramjet engine. The pilot controls the aircraft from the inner fuselage laying down.
The Leduc 0.10 aircraft was first designed by Ren Leduc in 1938 and clandestinely built at the Breguet Aviation factory. During the German occupation of France this plane was secretly being worked on. Only after World War 2 the test flights started in 1947.
A ramjet does not work at 0 airspeed, so it has to be launched by some means. In this model I've recreated one of the concept launch ideas the rocket sled. In real life this setup was never built and the Leduc 0.10 was launched from the back of a 4 engine Sud-Est Langedoc airliner. The ramjet produced 15.7 kN (3520 lbf) of thrust propelling the plane to a top speed of 800 km/h (500mp/h).
Only two 0.10's were built and tested one was destroyed during a crash and the other was damaged during a crash. The latter one has been rebuilt and is now preserved by the Le Bourget Aircraft museum at the historic Le Bourget airport in the Northern part of Paris.
This design is not animated.
