Description

Anomalocaris canadensis was a giant arthropod that lived 505 million years ago during Cambrian period. This animal is considered to be an apex predator of the Burgess Shale marine ecosystem discovered in Western Canada in the beginning of the XX century. Anomalocaris was up to 1.8 m (6 ft) long. According to the latest discovery and unlike the vast majority of conventional reconstructions of this animal, Anomalocaris might have had two rows of flaps that run along its back in addition to the larger flaps on its sides. The lower large flaps were homologous to walking limbs and the upper smaller flaps had the gills for breathing. The 3D model is rigged and animated. Turbosmooth modifier is added to the mesh, its Viewport iterations are set to 0 and Render iterations are set to 4. The model is rendered with 3ds max mental ray render with the use of Displacement. The animation is looped from 0 to 72 frames. The scene contains mental ray Sun and Sky system as shown on the preview renderings with blue background. There are 3 sets of textures for the body (8K), eyes (4K) and front appendages (4K). Each set contains texture (diffuse) map, normal map and displacement map. The model consists of 53,980 polygons and 28,808 vertices.
