Description

3D model of the AT airship (unheated LTA-gas version). The AT airship is an airship intented for (world) travellers; it is used similarly as an RV/camper. It can carry 2 people, aswell as 90 kg of cargo and 90 kg of ballast. The airship design is very small in comparison to most airships, and was made as light as possible, while also including some special features. Most notable features are: the use of a non-heated lighter-than-air (LTA) gas as lifting gas, and propellers that push the airship towards the ground (and propell the airship), rather than generating lift (and propell). The airship is filled with so much LTA-gas (ie hydrogen or alternatively helium) that it continuously wishes to ascend (lightly), hence requiring the propellers to generate “downwards lift”. The propellers are rotatable using an axle; the propulsion is electric and has an integrated pedaling system for the recharging of the battery. A water tank functions as a battery management system, ballast and as a water source; a supporting floor is not present (a catwalk and seats are used instead), the propeller motors are used as a heat source, … Given that the airship remains constantly in the air and can not land (except for repairs, …) winches are used to allow people to embark the airship; the winches are also used for mooring it.
