The Evarts class included 105 ships, 8 were cancelled and of the remainder 32 were delivered to the British Royal Navy as part of lend lease. They were reclassified by the British as Frigates and renamed the Captains Class. All the ships names were commissioned using names of captains of warships famous during the Napoleonic Wars.
