Description
This is a model I created for a design competition for the company Umbra. The goal was to come up with a concept design for a new paper towel holder.
The goal with the Flat Packer was to design a paper towel holder that could be flat packed to minimize packaging and storage space, some other considerations were; Minimize shipping costs for on-line purchasers, minimize packaging cost to the company, minimize bulk of the holder itself, all the components should be able to rest absolutely flat while packaged, no tools should be required for assembly and assembly should be easy, and finally, the aesthetics shouldn't suffer against practicality.
The Flat Packer is a super simple and minimalist paper towel holder with very few bells and whistles but it will get the main task done. The Flat Packer can either be wall mounted with 4 screws or set on the counter top using the .2” thick aluminum support legs included in the package. The holder consists of .1” thick, laser cut aluminum sheets, the sheets are easily assembled by interlocking them within one another, no tools needed and little time is skill required.
The Flat Packer is ideal for any kitchen with its modern design cues that shadow it’s relatively crude structure. Because the holder is so simple, inexpensive and versatile, it would also be well suited for campers and RV’s, Dorm rooms and garages.
