Description

Geissler Tube & Rotor Assembly #2 The Geissler tube is named after the German physicist Heinrich Geissler who made and invented this in 1857. Heinrich was a skilled glass blower hence the intricate shape of the tube. These tubes where used as gas discharge tubes to demonstrate the electrical glow discharge principle. Essentially this is the predecessor of neon lights. Various gasses, conductive fluids and ionizable minerals where used all showing their unique colors when excited by the electrical current. The gasses, fluids and minerals would start reacting (glowing) at about 2 kV till about 5 kV. From the 1880's onward Geissler tubes where mass produced. They were used for education and entertainment much like a plasma ball today. This particular version is attached to an electric motor. The motor spun the tube around and created an illuminated disc due to the persistence of vision effect. So in short: a fun little piece of electrical history (; This design is not animated. 254486 triangular polygons PDF included with wireframes. Materials and/or bumpmaps included in 3DS and OBJ zip files and in a separate textures zip file Avaible as: .3dm, .3ds, .C4D, .DWG, .DXF, .FBX, .OBJ
