Description
HISTORY
The Glorieta de Becquer is an sculptural group located in the Maria Luisa Park in the city of Seville (Spain), it was made by the sculptor Lorenzo Coullaut Valera in 1911 and is dedicated to the 19th century sevillian poet Gustavo Adolfo Becquer. Becquer was a very famous poet, who made mostly love poetry, is also know as the poet of love.
The original sculpture is made around a big tree (a swamp cypress, "taxodium distichum"), this is why the sculpture has a big hole in the middle.
The material is all white marble except for the two angels, wich are made in bronze.
The group is composed by five pieces and the central ring:
The bust of the poet Becquer on the top of an ornament column, with his name and date of birth and death inscribed.
The three loves: are three forms of love and represented by three ladies, from right to left are: the illusionated love, the posesed love and the lost love.
The hurt love, represented by a fallen angel with his wings broken and a dagger stick in his torso.
The hurter love, represented by the figure of Cupid, an angel with a bow and arrows.
