The English word "dinar" is the transliteration of the Arabic (dnr), which was borrowed via the Syriac dnar from the Greek (denrion),
itself from the Latin dnrius. A gold coin known as the dnra was also introduced to India by the Kushan Empire in the 1st century AD, and adopted by
the Gupta Empire and its successors up to the 6th century.
