Description

The most important German bomber of the second world war the Ju88 offered high performance and a very high degree of versatility which made the Ju88 a formidable combat weapon during the entire six years of war. The initial production bomber variant, the Junkers 88A accounted for nearly half of total production. The first prototype first flew in December 1936 and the first Junkers Ju88 A-0 models entered service with the Luftwaffe during September 1939. The major production model of the A series was the Junkers Ju88 A-4 powered by Junkers Jumo 211F or G's. Production averaged 2000 per annum between 1940 and 1943. The Junkers 88 made it's combat debut against British shipping in the Firth of Forth on 26th September 1939, after which the Junkers 88 served on all German theatres of war and was the most effective German bomber during the Battle of Britain.
