Naoto Fukasawa was born in Yamanashi Prefecture and graduated from Tama Art University in 1980. He has worked with Seiko Epson, designing wristwatch & wristTV technology; LCD TVs, LCD projectors and other equipment. He has designed a number of products utilizing state-of-the-art technology for start-up companies and for big brand name computer and communications related companies, and has won numerous design awards in Europe and the United States. The sofa with upholstered bench-style seat, with or without backrest, is supported by a polished metal tube that conveys a sense of lightness and mid-air suspension. The backrests, shorter than the length of the seat, feature a narrow ?"turned-up" section at the top that can also function as an armrest. A quarter-circle element was conceived to combine benches of different sizes, with or without backrest, to produce seating areas of different sizes and shapes, and create original landscapes in public areas.
