The SdKfz 250 Leichte underwent a major review and modification in 1943, when it was decided to simplify production by using straight armoured plates instead of the complex faceted shape of the initial production variants. 19 main armour plates were reduced to 9. This model also had permanent storage boxes placed on both sides. The new version was called "Neu" to differentiate it from the "Alte" (old) models. The SdKfz 250/9 was an armored reconnaissance variant that had a 2 cm kwk 38 mounted. It was intended to replace the SdKfz 222 as a reconnaissance vehicle.
