Description

USAAF Service Pilot Wings Badge 3D model High Poly, textured model of a USAAF Service Pilot wings badge. 3dsMax Mental Ray materials are included. The Service Pilot aeronautical rating and badge was awarded by the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) during World War II to experienced civilian pilots inducted directly into the USAAF to perform various pilot duties not involving direct engagement of enemy forces. The rating was awarded to male commissioned officers, flight/warrant officers and enlisted personnel of the U.S. Army Air Forces only. The Service Pilot Badge differed from the standard USAAF Pilot Badge in that an upper-case letter S was superimposed upon the badge's shield (formally termed escutcheon). At the close of World War II, the Service Pilot rating ceased to be awarded, and after the creation of the U.S. Air Force in 1947, this badge became obsolete
