The PCS class submarine chasers were a class of submarine chasers built mainly for the US Navy from 1941-1944.
They were designed as well-armed coastal antisubmarine warfare vessels, with an intended speed of 22 knots. Much larger than PT Boats, they were much slower, but capable of fast attack on submerged submarines. They were also more heavily armed than a surfaced submarine. The PC Class were steel hulled boats that used diesel turbine power and had a good range. PC Class sub chasers was credited with actually destroying submarines during the war but were more active in coastal waters in support of fleet actions.
