Description
This is a 3D model of a zoetrope.
A zoetrope is one of several pre-film animation devices that produce the illusion of motion by displaying a sequence of drawings or photographs showing progressive phases of that motion. The name zoetrope was composed from the Greek root words zoe, "life" and tropos, "turning". [wikipedia]
The maya scene has a simple rig (the bowl and the paper stip object parented under a locator) and a repeating 360 degree turn animation on it that is synced with the paper film strip.
Model is of real world scale, using centimeters as scene unit. Measurements are 31*31*30 (L/W/H)
Note: To see the cinematic effect, the scene has to be rendered with motion blur.
Not suitable for 3D printing because the surfaces are too thin.
Preview images are rendered from the provided maya scene.
Renderer used: mental ray
Materials: mila layered materials with unified sampling
Light: IBL environment
Render time: around 5 minutes
