History: The Laird Turner Meteor was built by Mattie Laird and Roscoe Turner in 1936 and won the Thompson Trophy races of 1938 and 1939. It is a conventional geared mid-wing aircraft with a radial engine. At the 1937 National Air Races the aircraft placed third after missing a pylon. It won the Thompson Trophy races in the following two years. Only one aircraft was built. It currently sits in the Smithsonian and has only 30 hours flight time on it.
