Description
The KAZ-606 was the first Soviet tractor with a cab-less design. The car featured an all-metal enclosed two-seat cabin with two viewing windshields separated by a partition. The tractor was equipped with a gasoline carburetor inline six-cylinder engine ZIS-120 (ZIL-157K) with a capacity of 90 HP at a speed of 2600 rpm, with a working volume of 5.5 liters.
Behind the driver's seat was a berth (for the first time on a Soviet production truck). Unusual was the location of the gear lever on the right side of the steering column, and the Parking brake on the left of the driver. KAZ-606 was produced in limited batches. In contrast to the prototypes, the serial KAZ-606 head lights moved from the upper part of the front wall of the cab to the lower one in special niches, which is why the tractor received a more priglyadny appearance.
Serial production of a more advanced modification of the KAZ-606A was started in 1962. The car was equipped with a modernized 6-cylinder inline 5.5-liter KAZ-606A engine (ZIL-157KYA), which was a modified ZIS-120 engine. Improvements were to increase the compression ratio, increase the rated speed of the crankshaft, and use a more advanced carburetor. This made it possible to improve the filling of the engine cylinders and achieve a power of 110 HP (against the 90 HP of the ZIS-120) at a speed of 2,800 rpm.
The car was able to tow a semi-trailer weighing 10.5 tons.
