Omschrijving
This model was made to use as visual icons for a website and brochure. I had posed the model and put various objects in its hands, worked out well and close enough to photorealistic for my purposes. The Mray version used a DGS for the wood, I worked the gloss and specular so it has a softer look and gets a bit more interesting in the shadow areas. The model uses hierarchal linking so it is easy to pose, didn’t bother with bones for this guy. I like the map on this one and have used it for a number of other wood objects.
NOTE PLEASE READ: Mental Ray version has an ANOMILY in the mapping (see previews), I get a dark line inconsistently when viewed from certain angles and resolutions. I left it for my work; I liked the way it made parts of the model look as if it had used multiple pieces of wood glued to make the piece before shaping. For me it added a nice bit of imperfection.

Included my mentalray still setup which consists of two area lights, phototable backdrop and an enclosing cube to limit the photon trace. I have also colored the walls and use them for subtle reflective light when I want to add a bit more interest to products I render that by themselves aren’t that interesting to look at (kick the photons way up, and add gloss/specular to the wall materials, add color to grey walls as you like) .
Note in mental ray setup, I keep my exposure a bit flat, I prefer to tweak after render, just change the exposure settings in the environment dialogue if you want to render brigher and with more contrast.
